Six NJ Families to Participate in Donate Life Rose Parade Float on New Year’s Day
The Donate Life Float will be making its 12th appearance in the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on New Year’s Day. This year, six New Jersey families will be traveling to the west coast to participate in the float as their loved ones are honored as either organ and tissue donors, transplant recipients or living organ donors.
Joseph D’Addio, Anthony Rizzo, Melissa Mercado and Riley Kogen all gave the gift of life as organ donors. Their families will see their floragraphs and the floragraphs of 68 other organ and tissue donors on the float that day. A floragraph is a likeness of the person that is created from flowers, seeds and other organic materials.
Joe DiSanto received a heart transplant when he was just 11 years old and will join 29 others as a float rider representing recipients who have been given a second chance at life.
At 70 years old, Reenie Harris donated a kidney to a complete stranger and will now join 11 other living organ donors as they walk alongside the float.
