Every registered organ and tissue donor has the power to give life to their community.

This August, we're asking New Jerseyans from every community to take one simple step: register as an organ and tissue donor.

Chris Bryant, kidney and pancreas transplant recipient, shares an inspiring message about the importance of organ and tissue donation, the need for more registered donors in diverse communities, and how saying "yes" can give hope to those waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

Why it's Important

Multicultural Communities in Donation and Transplantation...

  • Representan más del 60 % de las personas que se encuentran actualmente en la lista de espera de trasplantes de Estados Unidos.
  • Representarán el 50 % de las personas que reciban un trasplante de órgano en 2025.
  • Representarán el 33 % de los donantes de órganos, tanto fallecidos como vivos, en 2025.
  • El 27% de las personas que esperan un trasplante de órganos son afroamericanas.
  • El 23% de las personas que esperan un trasplante de órganos a nivel nacional son hispanos/latinos.
  • Los afroamericanos tienen casi cuatro veces más probabilidades de desarrollar una enfermedad renal terminal que los caucásicos, mientras que los hispanos/latinos tienen más del doble.

Infórmate bien

  • Personas de todas las edades e historiales médicos deberían considerarse donantes potenciales
  • La decisión de ser donante de órganos no afectará en modo alguno al nivel de atención médica de una persona enferma o lesionada.

  • Un donante de órganos y tejidos puede salvar 8 vidas y mejorar las de más de 75 personas. 

Double lung transplant recipient E. Denise Peoples shares how her transplant gave her a second chance at life and encourages others not to let myths or misconceptions prevent them from registering as organ and tissue donors.

NJ Sharing Network’s Live Healthy & Move free community event offers a full day of family fun with a focus on physical and mental fitness. The event features health screenings, tips on healthy eating, information on local resources, and details on the power of organ and tissue donation. Attendees of all ages also enjoy great music, performances, and activities for both children and adults.
