Joseph S. Roth

President and Chief Executive Officer

Joseph S. Roth, of Morris Plains, New Jersey is President and Chief Executive Officer of New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network. He joined the Network in this position in April 1998. Previously, Roth was Director, Government Affairs at Schering-Plough Corporation (now Merck) and prior to that served as Director, State and Community Affairs for the corporation. Before joining Schering-Plough, Roth held various positions in Sales, Marketing and Government Relations for Ciba-Geigy (now Novartis).

Roth always steps outside of his professional work to contribute his experience and leadership to others. He is currently a member of the New Jersey State Health Care Administration Board, New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation Board of Directors and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) Liver and Intestine Transplantation Committee. He previously served on the Board of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance from 2006-2010. He also served as President of the National Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) in 2004-2005 and the Co-Chair of the AOPO Legislative/Regulatory Committee from 2008-2010. Roth served on the Board of Directors of UNOS from 2004-2006 and was previously Vice-Chairman of the UNOS Organ Procurement Organization Committee, and a member of the Organ Availability Committee.

Roth’s contributions to his field have been widely recognized and noted with the highest distinction. Within the organ and tissue community, he received the penultimate AOPO/Cryolife Achievement Award in 2010 and the AOPO President’s Award in 2000. In 2003, he was named a Healthcare Professional Triangle Award honoree by the New Jersey Transplant Association for his dedication to donation and transplantation. In 2009, he received the New Jersey League of Municipalities Distinguished Public Service Award. Roth was recognized for excellence in leadership in 2014 by the Meadowlands Regional Chamber and by NJBIZ ICON Honors in 2017. Most recently, Joe was honored to receive the Union County Lifetime Achievement Award by the Boy Scouts of America, Patriots’ Path Council.

Roth holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology/zoology from the University of Maryland. He and his wife, Lori, have two children and five grandchildren.
