Live From Surgery Program

In the Interactive Theater at Liberty Science Center, you’ll have the extraordinary experience of observing, speaking with, and learning directly from partner physicians and hospitals during a living donor kidney transplant and a deceased donor heart transplant.

Facilitators move among the theater, shaping the conversation and structuring appropriate questions for students. Samples of medical equipment and models of human organs under discussion are passed around as they are used in the operating room. NJ Sharing Network speakers are invited to share their personal experience as a living donor or kidney transplant recipient with the students.

The theater is equipped with a large screen and video conference equipment that allows participants to see everything taking place in real time. Operating rooms are outfitted with three remotely-controlled video cameras, several microphones, and a monitor enabling the surgical staff to see and speak with the audience.

Speakers and volunteers needed! Living kidney donors, kidney transplant recipients, and heart transplant recipients are needed to share personal stories and staff table displays. To inquire about speaking and volunteer opportunities at Liberty Science Center, email Jan Hines or call (551) 574-3090.
